Common Questions
Everything you need to know about Australian payroll and how this calculator works.
What is the current superannuation rate in Australia?
The Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate is currently 11.5% for the 2024–25 financial year and will increase to 12% from 1 July 2025. Employers are legally required to pay this on top of your salary into your nominated superannuation fund.
What is the Medicare Levy?
The Medicare Levy is a 2% tax on your taxable income that helps fund Australia's public health system (Medicare). Low-income earners may receive a reduction or exemption. If you earn over $93,000 (singles) without private hospital cover, you may also pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) of 1–1.5%.
How accurate is this calculator?
This calculator uses the ATO's official 2025–26 income tax brackets and Medicare levy thresholds. It provides a close estimate for most salaried employees. However, it does not account for: HECS/HELP debt repayments, salary packaging arrangements, offsets beyond the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO), or other individual circumstances. Always consult a registered tax agent for precise advice.
What are Australia's income tax brackets for 2025–26?
For Australian residents, the 2025–26 tax brackets are:

• $0 – $18,200: 0% (tax-free threshold)
• $18,201 – $45,000: 16%
• $45,001 – $135,000: 30%
• $135,001 – $190,000: 37%
• Over $190,000: 45%

These rates don't include the Medicare Levy.
Is my salary data stored or shared?
No. All calculations are performed entirely within your browser using JavaScript. We do not store, log, transmit, or share any salary information you enter. This tool works without any server-side processing of your personal financial data.
What is the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO)?
The LITO reduces the tax payable for lower-income earners. For 2025–26, if you earn $37,500 or less you receive a full offset of $700. It phases out between $37,501 and $45,000 (at 5 cents per dollar), then from $45,001 to $66,667 (at 1.5 cents per dollar). Our calculator applies the LITO automatically.
